This screen will allow you to make detailed searches through all the records on the database.
To select a Field please use the mouse arrow to click on the down arrow in the box underneath the Field title. This box contains the 5 different searches available. E.g. to chose a subject search term click on the word Subject. The Free Text option will search the entire database and may take slightly longer. This option is recommended if a subject/place/name search fails.
Once the search term has been selected click on the down arrow underneath the Operator title. The box will contain four options: Equals - by choosing equals you are limiting your search to equal exactly what is typed in the search box this is the most common search and will generally be used. Contains - by choosing contains you broaden your search to include those words which contain the sequence of letters that you type into the box. Before and After are to be used with the Dates Field.
Please then type the word of your choice in the box under Value and click on SEARCH with the mouse arrow.
The OPAC will allow you to combine different searches, eg. requisitioning in Grouville.
If you wish to complete a Boolean Search please enter the first search as directed, eg. Subject equals requisitioning. Then click on the down arrow in the box under the word Boolean. Three options will appear; AND, OR, AND NOT. If you wish to search for records relating to requisitioning AND Grouville please click the mouse arrow on AND - all the records that appear will contain information on requisitioning and also on Grouville, therefore requisitioning in Grouville. If you wish to search for records relating to requisitioning OR Grouville please click the mouse arrow on OR - all the records that appear will contain information on requisitioning or information on Grouville, therefore all the records relating to Grouville and all the records relating to requisitioning. If you wish to see records relating to requisitioning AND NOT Grouville please click the mouse arrow on AND NOT - all the records that appear will contain information on requisitioning and not on Grouville, therefore all records relating to requisitioning but not requisitioning in Grouville.
After you have chosen which type of Boolean search you wish to use please click the mouse on the down arrow on the second box under search term and enter the search term for the next part of the search. In the above example the search term would be [Field] place [Operator] equals [Search Term] Grouville.
When you have finished entering the search terms click on SEARCH with the mouse arrow.
